August is a great time for a last minute family vacation.  Especially to Door County.  With it being such a warm month, going to the beach is always a great choice!

With over 25 public beaches in the area, there is plenty of fun to be had.  There is at least one beach in every town in Door County.  Some places, such as Washington Island, have multiple beaches.

Washing Island has 5!  The best know beach would be Schoolhouse Beach.  This beach is not your typical sand beach.  It is 1 of 5 worldwide that has smooth limestone rocks.  These rocks are so rare, you will be fined $250 for removing or vandalizing the rocks.

In Sister Bay, you’ll find the largest public beach.  There is nearly 2,000 feet of water frontage, 600 feet of sand beach, a 900 foot outdoor stage, playground, barbecue areas, bathrooms and quiet craft water rentals.  Tons to do, and plenty of space to do it.

Ephraim also has a fairly large sand beach.  Being more shallow waters, it makes it a great beach for younger children.

In recent years, Egg Harbor purchased the land adjacent to the original beach.  With that, they now have 500 feet of sand beach with other amenities such as a changing room, and a playground.

Lakeside Park in Jacksonport has a nice sand beach, a good playground, covered picnic areas with grills and bathrooms.

Baileys Harbor has 2 night public beaches, Ridges Beach and Anclam Beach Park.  The Ridges Beach has shallow water and bathrooms.  Anclam Beach Park has a sand beach, playground, grills, bathrooms and an amazing pier to walk out onto.

Whichever town you end up in, you will find a nice public beach to catch some rays and take a dip.
